Amazon opened its first physical bookstore yesterday. It will stock books that are available on its site at Amazon.com, alongside reviews from customers. Books will also be stocked showing the full book cover as opposed to the spine as in traditional bookstores. The store will use data from Amazon.Com, such as customer reviews, sales totals and pre-order sales to decide which books to stock.
I personally think this is a great move. As a lover of books (and especially hard copy books) I love to spend hours walking up and down the aisles of bookstores, it’s my idea of heaven!
For the first time, India Authors (like me!) will have a fair playing field to be stocked in a bookstore alongside traditional published bookstores. I also think that the more bookstores we have in general, the better is it for everyone. It exposes more people to the joy of reading and writing and I think that can only be a good thing.
