Last week I focused on continuing to work on the blurb for my upcoming book Escape Cubicle Quit The Job You Hate. Create a Life You Love.
The blurb does take a lot more time to create than expected even though it is only a short paragraph of a few hundred words.
The key for me was understanding how to pull out the key points of this book rather than providing a summary of what’s inside the book.
I had to keep asking myself:
Why would a reader pick this book up?
What is in this book that could potentially grab their attention?
What specific problems am I solving for this particular reader?
Am I providing what the reader really needs?
Am I highlighting the benefits of this book?
Am I showing them how their life could change by reading this book?
The blurb is essentially a sales pitch.
So I had to take off my author hat and put on my publishing hat. I found this fun work to be honest!
I was able to distance myself from my book and look at it from the other side of the table.
This gave me deeper insights into my reader and what they want.
In the future when writing my next book, I will probably start off with writing the blurb first because this makes you focus on the key aspects and components of your book.
So without further adieu here is the newly updated blurb. I also got this checked by my editor and by the proofreader to capture any mistakes and grammatical errors.

I strongly recommend you ask your editor and proofreader to do the final check before the file goes through.
Now the final manuscript is completely done. It feels really good to have reached this milestone.
The cover quote is also ready as is the foreward which is provided by my friend Susanne Chishti, a fellow author and entrepreneur who made the leap from corporate worker to run her own successful business.
The file is now going for typesetting and formatting which I have hired a professional to do for me.
I plan to launch the book end July / early August so watch this space!
