As an avid reader and writer, I have always had a life-long love affair with books. They were my portal into understanding the human condition, showed me how the world worked and also helped to save me.
When I sometimes felt like I had nowhere to turn to, or when I was suffering from deep depression, stress and grief, I turned to the only medicine that seemed to work for me. I turned to books.
Depending on what I needed, the books I read either helped lift my spirits, gave me courage and confidence or lifted me slowly out of the dark depths of intense depression.
I can whole heartedly say that books saved my life. They helped me to get to this point in my life. And I’m surviving and thriving.
Which is why I wanted to share the story of an incredible author and person in today’s post.
Mark Dawson is a well know successful indie author. He made his name with producing online educational courses for authors just getting started (SPF101 course of which I am a member) as well as on how to use Facebook Advertising to boost books sales.
Through his courses, he has helped thousands of other authors go on to achieve more success. He is helpful and immensely generous with his time and support.
I have met him several times at author related conferences and each time he always imparts kind words of wisdom and is generous with sharing his knowledge to help me keep going towards my dreams of being a successful indie author.
Mark is a successful fiction author with over 24 books being produced in the last four years alone. And his latest book offering especially caught my attention. Here’s why.
Mark’s friend. Emma Johns has been battling breast cancer for several years. In the middle of her gruelling treatment, she found out that she was pregnant even though the chemotherapy was supposed to make her infertile. In December, she gave birth to her own little miracle: Baby Phoenix.
Emma’s condition is unfortunately worsening, but there is hope: a trial drug which is showing amazing results for women with incurable triple negative breast cancer (like her).
But, due to her pregnancy, Emma missed out on being eligible for the only trial available for this drug. Her best option now is to pay for it privately for the eye-watering sum of £40,000.
So this is where books are literally saving lives.
Mark wants to help Emma to raise the funds she desperately needs. So he has written a novella featuring one his most popular characters, Beatrix Rose, and is donating all profits from the sale of the book to fund Emma’s treatment.
I haven’t read Mark’s fiction books yet, but I was compelled to purchase it as a way to help support Emma. And I’m glad I did.
Because I love Mark’s work and showing him support in this way is also what makes me happy. His books have also been optioned for TV/ film, and they have received great reviews too.
So if you want to help save a life through books, click here to purchase Mark’s book and help another book save another life. All proceeds go to fund Emma’s treatment.
Or you can also donate directly to Emma’s campaign on her GoFund Me page.
