Chapter 2. Ready to Claim Your Life?
“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.”
– Jim Rohn
Are you drifting or driving?
Most of you can probably relate to my story. Although I hope your bosses aren’t as bad! But why is it that so many of us feel stuck in our lives? Why are we in jobs we dread going to every Monday morning?
Why are we whiling away our week to get to Friday evening? Why do we feel like we are not living to our maximum potential? Why do we still feel that we lack despite amassing gadgets, cars, homes and so many other material possessions?
Perhaps it’s because so many of us have followed a traditional path following the status quo. Getting a ‘good’ education, a ‘good’ job followed by a mortgage. All these things were sold to us guaranteeing a happy ever after. So what went wrong? Why do we still feel stuck and unhappy?
Perhaps it’s because we have become miserable and tired of the same old routines. Life seems to have lost its sparkle.
Our health and relationships are suffering. We have no passion or energy left for life. Days seem to roll into one another on a repeating loop.
And before you know it, we have been trudging away for a decade without really noticing how poor our quality of life has become or seeing the direction it has taken.
Those of us who want to make a change often struggle because we don’t know how to or lack the courage. If you don’t know where you are going, any path will take you there.
Even worse, you can easily wander down a path you never wanted.
I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be this way.
You can choose whether you want to drift through life unconsciously or drive it consciously.
Are you ready to change?
The single most powerful question you can ask yourself to determine if you are a passive drifter in your life or an active driver is: Am I enjoying 100% of my life?
If the answer is anything less than 100%, then you owe it to yourself to live a life that you wake up excited for. Your life is a precious one-time gift. Time is the currency of life, and it is finite.
Are you going to spend, waste or invest this currency? Do you want to do meaningful work? Create lasting impact? Actualise your highest potential? Live with joy? Cultivate more happiness?
If so, then continue reading this book which will show you step by step, how to start operating at your highest potential.
If you don’t take action, you risk sleepwalking your way through to the end of this life, having worked on someone else’s agendas and lining other people’s pockets.
This book shows you it doesn’t have to be this way. You can live a life based on your terms with passion and energy. You can choose the rules. You can choose happiness and fulfilment. You can write your story.
Since leaving the corporate grind, I now wake up before my alarm clock goes off because I can’t wait to start my day.
My life is aligned with my higher purpose. My work is meaningful and contributes to this world in a positive way.
This book will wake you up to your unique contribution that you must not keep to yourself. You owe it to yourself as well, as to the world, to share your unique passions and gifts with us.
Each one of us has something special to offer even if you don’t know what that is right now.
