I am committed to making a successful full-time career as an Indie author. Success for me means making a living out of selling my books and associated course products as well as speaking engagements.
I am only 6 months into this new journey so I find the best way to learn is to start paying attention to what is happening in the publishing industry. In this way you will pick up whats going on in the bigger picture world as well as being aware of trends and new topics.
When you are learning anything that is relatively new to you, there is always a steep learning curve and too much info can be just as bad as too little.
So what I have done over the past few months is to curate a list of publishing news resources that I go to to keep abreast of any latest developments.
Of course, your primary focus when starting out in the world of writing should always remain on creating work and putting those words onto paper and into the world. So I usually carve out an hour or so during the week to catch up on relevant news.
Here are my top go-to resources for the latest in the publishing word, both traditional and self-published:
Book Bub Partners: This is primarily a book giveaway site but they also have some great articles on the latest trends when you sign up to their newsletter.
Publishing Perspectives: A leading trade magazine
